Mid-Week Slump? Here’s How to Pull Yourself Out

If you struggle to stay focused and motivated once Wednesday hits, you are far from alone. A mid-week slump is common among working professionals, as the work has built up throughout the week, but a weekend break is still days away. Pull yourself out of the mid-week slump with these tips:

Revitalize Your Daily Routine

Monotony may be the root of your mid-week slump, so switch things up. Revitalize your daily routine to add some energy and novelty to your work week, such as getting up early to walk in the park before work, having lunch in a different spot, or planning a fun activity for after work as an incentive.

Start Small…or Go Big

When you find it challenging to be productive, the key to overcoming procrastination is to take action in the way that works best for you and is achievable without much mental effort. Start small, such as by breaking down your most important task into the most basic sub-steps, or go big, such as by frontloading your most taxing duties to the beginning of the day and then saving administrative tasks for later in the day – whatever method you find doable and motivating.

Get Moving

Whether your mid-week slump is due to not feeling physically energized or mentally alert, incorporating activity into your day can help. Get moving and try to fit in regular exercise throughout your day – even just a five-minute walk down the hallway every hour can get your blood pumping and make it easier to tackle your To Do list. Even better is getting physically active outdoors to reap the benefits of fresh air and natural light.

Reset and Reflect

When you’re in the midst of a mid-week slump, that is an opportune time to assess the bigger picture and boost your motivation to get back on track. Reset and reflect by setting a recurring block in your schedule each midweek to evaluate how you are feeling overall, where you have excelled productivity-wise, improvements you could make, and anything positive that has happened, such as receiving a compliment or feeling proud of an accomplishment.
