Our client, a large Canadian bank, is seeking a Team Lead for their Equity Settlements team within Capital Markets Operations team. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced settlements professional looking to take the next step in their career.

This role has been created to strengthen the leadership bench within a high-performing operations team. Working closely with senior leadership, you will play a key role in daily operations, process improvement, technology initiatives, and the ongoing modernization of settlement functions. You'll also have the opportunity to mentor team members and position yourself for future leadership opportunities.

Key Responsibilities include the following;  Settlements & Operations
  • Oversee and monitor daily equity settlement activity across for Foreign Markets with some CDS and DTC 
  • Act as the senior escalation point for complex foreign settlement issues and daily production challenges.
  • Ensure timely resolution of settlement breaks and reconciliation exceptions.
  • Monitor daily operational controls and allocate outstanding breaks to the appropriate teams for investigation and resolution.
  • Partner with internal stakeholders across all foreign markets, Canadian and U.S., and offshore teams to ensure seamless operational execution.
  • Produce and present monthly operational metrics, including settlement fails, breaks, and key performance indicators.
Process Improvement & Technology
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives across the settlements function.
  • Identify opportunities to automate manual processes using AI and emerging technologies.
  • Leverage AI tools, including Microsoft Copilot, to improve operational efficiency, identify trends, and streamline workflows.
  • Participate in technology and modernization projects impacting Capital Markets Operations.
  • Recommend enhancements to operational procedures, controls, and documentation.
Leadership & Team Support
  • Act as the primary backup to the Associate Director.
  • Provide coaching, guidance, and technical support to team members.
  • Assist with workload management, resource planning, vacation coverage, and operational continuity.
  • Support the development of team capabilities through training and knowledge sharing.
  • Demonstrate leadership presence and contribute positively to team culture.
To be considered for this opportunity, our client is looking for someone with the following skills/qualifications;
  • 7+ years of experience in Capital Markets Operations, with a strong background in equity settlements.
  • Extensive experience with Foreign Settlements, CDS, and DTC.
  • Strong understanding of settlement breaks, reconciliations, and operational risk management.
  • Experience with settlement and operations platforms such as Broadridge, Gloss, and Microsoft Copilot.
  • Demonstrated experience leading operational process improvements or technology initiatives.
  • Exposure to AI tools and automation within an operations environment.
  • Previous experience acting as a team lead, mentor, or informal people leader is considered a strong asset.
  • Strong knowledge of capital markets products and post-trade operations.
  • University degree or equivalent industry experience.
