Our client, an oil and gas company are looking to hire a Sr. Customs Advisor/Customs Specialist to their team for an initial 6-month contract with a possibility of extension/conversion. This role is currently hybrid, 4 days per week in office in Calgary.

Your responsibilities include:
  • Provide Import/Export Guidance: Advise logistics teams and business units on pre- and post-trade activities, including commercial document requirements for customs clearance and risk mitigation strategies.
  • Review Contracts for Compliance: Assess commercial contracts and agreements, offering recommendations on import/export terms to ensure regulatory compliance.
  • Enhance Customs Control Framework: Conduct risk assessments on customs operations, identify potential risks, and implement strategies to mitigate them while driving process improvements.
  • Develop and Refine Control Processes: Establish and improve control mechanisms for import/export activities to address gaps, collaborating with third parties and internal customs compliance teams.
  • Regulatory Monitoring: Evaluate internal processes in light of regulatory changes, ensuring compliance with import/export laws and company policies.
  • Stakeholder Collaboration and Education: Collaborate with business units to provide relevant trade compliance information, reinforcing expectations and enhancing awareness.
  • Industry Trend Analysis: Monitor changes and trends in international trade and their potential impact on the organization's operations and risk profile.
  • Support Data Streamlining Initiatives: Contribute to team efforts in data streamlining and analytics, enhancing operational efficiency and decision-making.
Must Have Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in business, Finance, Economics or related field.
  • Experience in risk analysis, specifically in customs or international trade.
  • Minimum 5 years' experience in Oil & Gas industry and/or at a customs brokerage firm supporting the oil & gas industry considered an asset; strong working knowledge of the oil and gas business, projects and equipment.
  • Experience as a Certified Customs Specialist (CCS) focusing on compliance.
  • Strong knowledge of import/export procedures and Canada/U.S. Customs laws, rules & regulations.
  • Data analytics and visualization experience required; data science experience considered an asset.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills, with high attention to detail.
  • Ability to work effectively on a dynamic team while managing competing priorities.
  • Highly proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, Excel, Power Point.
