Responsibilities of the Payroll Manager
- Oversee all daily payroll operations, ensuring accurate and timely multi-state, domestic, and international payrolls.
- Manage reconciliation, records, and verification of payroll deductions, including benefits, retirement, insurance, and garnishments.
- Ensure tax accuracy and compliance, support timely federal/state/local filings, and handle audits, discrepancies, and agency coordination.
- Direct year-end activities such as preparing, reviewing, and distributing W-2s.
- Lead and develop payroll staff through workload management, coaching, and fostering a collaborative, service-oriented team culture.
- Maintain payroll policies and documentation, resolve complex escalated issues, and drive process improvements to reduce risk and enhance efficiency.
Requirements of the Payroll Manager
- 10+ years of experience required
- A Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) designation preferred
- A combination of education and relevant experience from which comparable knowledge is demonstrated may be considered
- Strong interpersonal skills with an ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively with all levels of the organization
- Excellent attention-to-detail, time-management, work ethic, and customer service skills
- Ability to meet deadlines and work under pressure, while maintaining flexibility through changing priorities and demanding timelines
- Strong leadership skills
