Controller

IFG Pittsburgh is actively recruiting a Controller responsible for overseeing financial activities across multiple projects, ensuring accurate job costing, revenue recognition, and financial reporting. This role leads project review meetings, prepares detailed divisional and project-level financial analysis, and maintains the Work in Progress (WIP) schedule in accordance with percentage-of-completion accounting. The position supports compliance through account reconciliations, tax filings, and coordination with internal and external auditors. Partnering closely with project managers and operations teams, the role enhances cost tracking, forecasting accuracy, and overall financial visibility. Additionally, the Controller  provides key insights to senior leadership on project performance, cash flow, and operational risk.


Responsibilities of the Controller

• Lead quarterly job cost and project review meetings with field and office leadership across multiple locations, analyzing budget vs. actual performance, cost overruns, and margin trends specific to construction projects.
• Prepare and distribute divisional financial reporting, including detailed project-level profitability analysis, backlog reporting, and variance explanations for executive review.
• Maintain and analyze the Work in Progress (WIP) schedule, including percent complete calculations, earned revenue, over/under billings, and contract status to ensure accurate revenue recognition.
• Perform complex account reconciliations with a focus on construction-related accounts such as job costs, retainage receivables/payables, prepaid expenses, and accrued project liabilities.
• Prepare and post journal entries related to project activity, including cost allocations, revenue adjustments, accruals, and intercompany transactions.
• Produce monthly and quarterly financial statements, ensuring alignment with construction accounting standards and percentage-of-completion methodology.

Requirements of the Controller

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline required
• CPA or pursuit of certification is a plus.
• Minimum of five (5) years of progressive accounting experience, with a demonstrated track record of increasing responsibility and impact.
• Prior exposure to the construction industry, including familiarity with job costing and WIP accounting, is preferred but not required.
• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel is essential, with strong working knowledge of the broader Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Outlook); experience with ERP/accounting systems required
