Our client, a Top 5 bank in Canada is looking to hire a Finance Accountant for an initial 12-month contract with a high possibility of extension and conversion. This role is 2-3 days a week in the office in downtown Toronto.
 
  • Month-End Close Management - Oversee the Insurance and Loan Loss Provision month-end close process, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and adherence to financial reporting timelines.
  • Financial Analysis & Reporting - Conduct financial analysis, investigate variances, and provide insightful explanations of results to key stakeholders.
  • Legal Entity Oversight - Manage financial reporting for insurance legal entities, support quarterly board deliverables, and ensure compliance with regulatory and governance requirements.
  • Process Improvement & Financial Controls - Enforce strong financial controls, identify weaknesses, and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency and accuracy in financial reporting.
  • Audit & Compliance Support - Respond to internal, external, and regulatory audit requests accurately and in a timely manner, ensuring all financial activities comply with CIBC policies and IFRS standards.
  • Offshore & Onshore Team Management - Oversee and monitor the performance of offshore teams, delegate tasks effectively, and provide guidance to onshore team members for improved financial operations.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration - Develop and maintain relationships with key internal stakeholders, including CFO teams, Risk Management, Internal Audit, Accounting Policy, and Financial Reporting teams.
  • Team Development & Knowledge Sharing - Contribute to a positive team environment, support training initiatives, and mentor team members to enhance their understanding of financial processes, products, and controls.

Must-Have Skills:
  • 5-7+ years of relevant work experience with financial service institutions
  • Proficient in Excel (formulas, VBA, Macros)
  • Ability to investigate accounting issues and processes.

Nice to Have:
  • Loan loss provision and insurance experience a bonus
  • Understanding of General ledger applications (Peoplesoft, SAP, Oracle)
  • Knowledge of financial controls
  • Current accreditation CPA or equivalent with strong knowledge of IFRS, financial reporting and controls environment preferred.
