Our client, one of Canada's leading financial institutions, is seeking an experienced Tax Specialist to support complex Estate and Trust tax compliance activities. This is a 6-month contract opportunity operating in a hybrid model (3 days onsite per week), with potential for extension or permanent conversion based on business needs and performance.
The successful candidate will be responsible for preparing and reviewing complex personal, estate, and trust tax returns, managing CRA correspondence, identifying tax planning opportunities, and providing technical expertise related to Estates and Trusts taxation. This role is ideal for a tax professional with strong experience in T1 Terminal, T3 Trust, Graduated Rate Estates (GREs), and estate administration within a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities
o             Prepare and file complex T1 Personal, T1 Terminal (Final), and T3 Trust and Estate tax returns.
o             Gather, review, and analyze tax information from clients and internal/external stakeholders.
o             Prepare supporting schedules, calculations, and tax documentation.
o             Identify tax planning opportunities, including post-mortem tax planning strategies.
o             Review CRA assessments and prepare adjustment requests, objections, and Clearance Certificate applications.
o             Liaise with clients, legal representatives, tax professionals, and government agencies regarding tax matters.
o             Respond to CRA inquiries and provide supporting documentation as required.
o             Review and support complex filings involving Graduated Rate Estates (GREs), Rights or Things returns, and testamentary trusts.
o             Maintain high standards of accuracy, compliance, and service delivery.
o             Support special projects and process improvement initiatives.
o             Provide guidance and training to junior team members when required.

Must-Have Requirements
o             3+ years of experience in accounting, taxation, estates, or trust administration.
o             Post-secondary degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline.
o             Experience preparing T1 Personal Tax Returns.
o             Experience preparing T1 Terminal (Final) Returns.
o             Experience preparing T3 Trust and Estate Returns.
o             Strong knowledge of Graduated Rate Estates (GREs).
o             Experience working with tax preparation software (Taxprep preferred).
o             Strong understanding of Canadian personal, estate, and trust taxation.
o             Excellent tax research, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
