Responsibilities of the Tax Manager
- Supervise a team of seniors, staff and interns
- Perform technical review of all client engagement types, of any complexity
- Manage and/or delegate governmental tax examinations; may represent the client before the appropriate taxing authorities
- Participate actively in client meetings and planning efforts
- Assume client service responsibility and work directly with clients
- Assume full responsibility for all engagements and delegate to staff as deemed necessary
- Keep partner informed of all important developments on engagements; analyze problems and recommend solutions
- Maintain familiarity with qualifications of all staff members; review staff assignments for appropriateness
- Work to develop responsible, trained staff by assisting in recruiting, interviewing, coaching, developing training aids, and acting as an instructor in professional development programs
- Act as a resource for tax preparers on specific tax issues and/or questions
- Be an active participating member of the firm's management team
- Participate in internal educational programs as an instructor or discussion leader
- Participate in firm initiatives that promote a positive working environment and vibrant culture
- Understand and embrace the importance of the firm's Core Values and their role in the success of the business
- Attend firm leadership meetings, assist in development of business plans and strategy
- Communicate important accounting and tax developments affecting the firm's clients
- Maintain knowledge of general economic and political trends of possible tax/accounting or other legislation that could affect the business climate
- Bachelor's degree in accounting or Master's degree in accounting. A Bachelor's or Advanced degree in another
- Bachelor's degree in accounting, or MBA/MBT
- Minimum of six years' experience in public accounting
- Current CPA or EA license is preferred. If not yet obtained, will need to agree to obtain within 18-24 months of start date
- Minimum of one year experience supervising and directing work or staff
- Work history that demonstrates a progression in complexity, scope, and number of projects and clients managed
- Advanced proficiency in accounting and tax software programs
- Possession of strong communication and organization skills
