ROLE SUMMARY
Controller is responsible for managing all facets of the local Finance team, including month-end financial statements, account recs and reporting. Controller will support daily business operations, coordinate key operating metrics, support inventory processes, and drive job- or business-line profitability analyses. He/she will own internal financial controls, ensuring inventory, banking and account reconciliation integrity in operating results and the general ledger. He/she will lead a team of 1-2 direct reports, working closely and collaboratively with senior management peers to drive results. Controller will utilize interpersonal skills to lead and develop the Finance team, improving individual and department performance while maintaining a positive and development-oriented work environment.
ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Ensure financial reports of the organization are built in accordance with GAAP
- Prepare journal entries, monthly closings and financial statements, and related reporting
- Ensure all financial transactions are recorded properly and timely
- Process month-end balancing and complete the month-end process
- Plan, study and collect data to analyze costs of business activity such as raw materials, rates of depreciation, labor and overhead costs
- Provide management with reports on manufacturing costs, product or service capability
- Assist in developing and implementing policies and procedures with emphasis on internal controls
- Critically review current accounting and reporting processes and identify ways to automate / improve
- Assist in managing the Billing and AP functions
- Manage and perform ad hoc analysis or special projects as needed
- Assists the CFO/VP of Finance in the preparation of the annual budget and quarterly Board reports
- Maintains and reconciles the general ledger
- Support and prepare necessary documentation for both internal and external audits
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Demonstrated technical abilities in accounting, cash management and working capital coordination, and financial analysis
- Track record of developing new financial processes, establishing new methods, and training/deploying across an organization
- Track record of thought-partnership with senior and operational leadership, acting as "right hand person" to senior leadership
- Track record of working both independently and collaboratively in a team environment
- Ability to take initiative and anticipate the needs of the leaders
- Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, draw valid conclusions and recommend alternative solutions or approaches to problems
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to be operationally credible in the workplace
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- 5-7years finance and cost accounting experience in manufacturing or distribution environment
- 2 years experience managing accounting or administrative resources preferred
- Demonstrated experience applying GAAP rules in real-world manufacturing or distribution environments
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance
COMPUTER SKILLS:
- Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office products.
- Strong IT skills and exposure to ERP systems, Netsuite preferred
- Advanced Excel skills (v-lookups, pivots), experience with Hyperion or similar forecasting tools a plus
