 Corporate Controller

Responsible for direct supervision of all accounting and financial functions. Creation of two stand-alone accounting departments for a trucking logistics business and a growing diesel service/maintenance business. Managing department personnel as needed. Primary responsibilities include supervision of the monthly close process, monthly, quarterly, and annual reports, supervising AP and AR, payroll, monthly reporting for the owner, annual preparation of a budget. Oversight of annual corporate tax return. Treasury and financial management. The Corporate Controller will develop and implement policies, procedures, and best practices to quickly identify and resolve accounting issues. Create accounting procedures to make the close and reporting processes more efficient and accurate

Essential Functions:
  • Treasury Management
  • Oversees all banking and financial transactions
  • Preparation of the year-to-date financial statements
  • Preparation of annual budget
  • Establishment of accounting department operations for two stand-alone businesses in tandem with internal control procedures
  • Preparation of workpapers supporting the annual tax return
  • Coordinate the preparation of annual tax return (either in-house or with outside CPA firm - TBD)
  • Implement a process to record transactions by department and compare costs incurred to budget and performance analysis of profit centers
  • Review and recordation of journal entries required to reflect the monthly activity
  • Preparation of workpapers supporting the monthly close process and month-end balances
  • Review monthly accounting close process including analytical review of the monthly operating results to ensure accurate accounting records are maintained
  • Preparation of monthly financial statements and related footnotes
  • Perform cash projections to effectively manage cash balances and maximize the return on any excess cash balances
  • Preparation of monthly reforecast incorporating historical results and future assumptions
  • Supervision of multi-company, multi-state payroll; understands unique payroll set-up and processing for OTR, Regional, and local truck drivers and mechanics technicians
  • Supervise the billing of asset management, incentive fees, acquisition, disposition, QPAM and other fees monthly, quarterly, annually in accordance with the respective agreements
  • Supervision of all accounts payable processed in corporate office. This includes corporate payables, allocations of costs incurred on behalf of multiple entities
  • Review of expenses incurred on behalf of multiple entities such as software (MRI) costs, accounting services, analytical services, etc.
  • Maintenance of fixed asset records for coordinate quarterly inventory of fixed assets with the information technology department
  • Develop and implement corporate accounting policies and procedures
  • Develop, implement and maintain adequate and effective internal controls
  • Implement, document and maintain adequate and effective processes to improve the close and reporting cycles to ensure timely and accurate reporting
  • Responsible for ensuring compliance with all applicable laws, rules, and regulations
  • Proper analytical review of the asset operations from a balance sheet, income statement and cash flow perspective as well as an overall business perspective
  • Overall supervision of accounting staff; creation of job descriptions for accounting roles
  • Periodic assessment of accounting department to ensure properly staffed
  • Any other responsibilities that may be assigned from time to time
  • Masters Degree in Accounting or Master of Business Administration with an emphasis in accounting. Will consider a Bachelors degree if combined with a CPA or CMA. CPA or CMA is strongly preferred
  • 7+ years experience in the accounting and finance sector.
  • 4+ years experience managing accountants and the accounting and finance process
  • 3+ years in a position equivalent to a controller or higher level
  • Experience in the Transportation and Logistics industry a plus
