IFG's client, a PE-backed manufacturing company located in the south suburbs, is looking for a newly created Assistant Controller is join their growing team! This reports into the Controller and will manage three accounting professionals. The Assistant Controller will play a critical part in managing the day to day activities in the accounting functions of the business, including leading the month-end close process, assisting in establishing product costing standards, budgeting, and financial reporting activities across the entire company. 

Primary Responsibilities:

    • Oversee the growth and development of the Accounting staff, including the Site controller, the Cost Accounting Manager and the Staff Accountant.
    • Manage the monthly close process in accordance with the established schedule.
    • Review all journal entries and account reconciliations.
    • Direct and manage the Company's financial accounting activities in accordance with U.S. GAAP, and best practices in our business processes.
    • Manage capital spending plan and WIP/ JIP (works in progress/ jobs in progress).  Manage the closing of AUC projects on a timely basis into completed projects and the final fixed asset account(s) with appropriate useful lives.
    • Partner with operations and oversee development of standard costing including bill of materials, routings,  and cost accounting for the plant operations.
    • Develop and maintain a system of internal controls over accounting and other integral parts of the organization
    • Support the Controller and CFO in cash management and Treasury related activities as directed including bank account reconciliations, etc. 
    • Support FP&A in providing monthly statements and ad-hoc reports as needed.
    • Assist in development, improvement and delivery of timely monthly financials for management and lender reporting.
    • Assist and support the sales and use tax return process with external tax advisers, as well as assist with sales and use tax audits as needed.
    • Assist with external audit as needed to support the process, including sample selection, review of journal entries and account reconciliations and other activities.
    • Collaborate with GMs and Operational leadership to support the business and manage stakeholder relationships.

Key Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, CPA and/or CMA preferred
  • Big Four or large regional public accounting background desired
  • 5-10+ years of progressive accounting experience with experience managing a team in a manufacturing environment - ideally chemicals process manufacturing in mid-cap sized business ($200M-$1Billion revenue) 
  • Excellent Excel and Powerpoint skills including use of pivot tables
  • Proficiency in US GAAP compliance
  • Excellent planning and forecasting skills, experience with costing standards, working capital management, and product-line profitability analysis
  • Proficiency in SAP (ideally S/4HANA)
  • Experience working in Private Equity owned enterprises preferred but not required
