Title: Internal Audit Manager

Location: 100% Remote Role (Rare office visit during senior management meetings/visits)

SUMMARY: This role oversees and facilitates all external assurance audits and certifications along with management of client contractual audit request activities. This position will also be considered a leadership role within the department and will assist in the development and management of the annual audit plan.

  • Assist the VP, AVP & Director of Internal Audit with leading all aspects of the day-to-day activities of the department.
  • Manage staff and conducting performance evaluations, including the development, mentoring and coaching of staff.
  • Plays liaison between third party audit and assurance firms, clients account managers and process and controls owners within the organization.
  • The role tasks the incumbent with the implementation, documentation, monitoring, and modification of internal controls, processes, and procedures to develop best practices for operational controls in accordance with the organization's policies, practices, and procedures.
  • Develop and maintain effective working relationships with individuals in other functions and/or business units responsible for the organization's operating processes and internal controls.


1. Lead and Manage external assurance audits including but not limited to HITRUST, SOC 1, SOC 2, and other audits as required by organizational management or clients.
2. Contribute to the development of the annual audit plan, including regular re-evaluations with the departmental leadership team.
3. Manage, track and monitor all client requests and audit activities within the organization including but not limited to: Internal Control, IT Security assessments and questionnaires, Credentialing, Network Development Provider Contract reviews, General Questionnaires and Policies and Procedures inquiries. Average audit activity managed is approximately 200 Client Audit Requests annually.
4. Analyze and communicate client requests with all company subject matter experts/department management to verify that all material requested by the client is thoroughly reviewed and provided to the client accurately and efficiently meeting the client imposed deadlines.
5. Create reporting, monitor and evaluate with internal teams on all corrective action plans from clients as a result of an audit and/or review of organizational processes.
6. Aid departmental leadership with SOX Compliance program, supporting leadership in the build and maintenance of procedures for the execution of audits in accordance with the International Standards for the Professional Practice of Internal Auditing (Standards). Promulgated by the Institute of Internal Auditors, local regulators and Industry guidance.
7. Identify process improvements for management review and approval. Assist with implementing process improvements and control changes.
8. Assist departmental leadership on any SOX related or other Operational Testing performed during the year.
9. Identify and communicate noncompliance with internal controls.
10. Collaborate, coordinate, and communicate across disciplines and departments.
11. Ensure compliance with HIPAA regulations and requirements.

13. Responsible for routine internal monitoring and auditing of compliance risks, prompt response to compliance issues as they are raised, investigation of potential compliance problems as identified in the course of self-evaluation and audits, correction of such problems promptly and thoroughly to reduce the potential for recurrence as required by applicable state and federal laws, regulations and MPI's Compliance Programs


JOB REQUIREMENTS (Education, Experience, and Training):
* Minimum bachelors' degree in a business related field (accounting and/or finance is preferred) coupled with (10) years' experience in internal audit or a closely related department.
* Professional certification CPA,CIA, or MBA preferred
* Required licensures, professional certifications, and/or Board certifications as applicable
* Prior experience developing, testing, and documenting internal controls in a SOX framework preferred
* Knowledge of the Company's business operational departments and responsibilities
* Knowledge of corporate governance laws including SOX, generally accepted accounting principles, financial statements, and audits
* Problem solving, analytical, communication (written, verbal and listening), prioritization, time management, organizational, leadership and project management skills
* Ability to clearly communicate client requests to Company management and/or subject matter experts.
* Ability to work independently or as part of a team
* Ability to interface with all levels within the Company and with external and internal clients and auditors
* Ability to prioritize and manage multiple assignments
* Ability to multi-task, prioritize and manage time
* Ability to analyze and ascertain issues from limited data and information in order to make recommendations and/or assessments
