IFG's manufacturing client, located in the northern suburbs, is looking for a Corporate Controller, reporting directly to the CFO. 

The role is responsible for managing one Staff Accountant. Additionally, the Corporate Controller will have significant interaction with the Division Controllers, the Division General Managers, the Vice President of Operations, and the CEO.

Responsibilities:

Responsible for general accounting functions and the supervision of accounting and clerical staff at the corporate office.

Maintain the corporate general ledger, including the preparation of journal entries, account analysis and reconciliation and the monthly closing of the corporate books. Perform month end consolidation and financial reporting of the company’s consolidated financial statements including intercompany transactions. Manage accounting staff involved in general accounting, payroll, accounts payable and accounts receivable for corporate books. Serve as the primary contact for all treasury management aspects of the company’s commercial banking relationship.  Manage daily cash flows of the corporation through interface with web-based banking portal.  Manage transaction exceptions directly with the bank. Coordinate year-end audit process with Division Controllers and external audit firm.  Includes preparation of schedules, explanations of supporting documentation and procedures and facilitate/coordinate other related auditor requests. Preparation of the annual consolidated financial statements (with footnotes) of the company, in coordination with GAAP and our audit firm. Ensure all tax filings are completed by our external tax firm on time and accurately.  Coordinate with Divisional Controllers, Corporate CFO, and ownership in providing all information necessary to the external tax firm. Prepare monthly borrowing base analysis as required by the bank.  Prepare quarterly compliance certificates and calculations of covenants. Prepare consolidated annual budget in coordination with incoming division level budgets (prepared by the Division Controllers).  Similar procedures for financials reforecasts, as required. Process corporate payroll through ADP and serve as overall administrator on the company’s ADP account. Maintain accounting records for fixed assets. Serve as the primary contact for the company’s relationships with  insurance carriers for all corporate and divisional business insurance requirement. Review incoming daily, weekly and monthly division level management reports for accuracy.  Provide insight to senior leadership on opportunities to improve operational and business outcomes. Prepare various daily, weekly and monthly corporate level reports for senior management. Keep abreast of related professional accounting trends and practices.  Attend educational events provided by external accountants, tax advisors, bankers, and attorneys. Supervise, motivate and develop subordinates to optimize their performance and their personal and professional growth; ensure compliance with company standards, practices and procedures. Identify opportunities to use technology to make all financial and accounting functions of the company more efficient, timely, and accurate. Perform special studies and analyses and other related duties as directed by the CFO. Assist Division Controllers as needed (travel is expected to be less than 5% annually) Serve as a leader in the corporate headquarters when CFO and CEO are off-site.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accountancy
  • CPA highly preferred
  • Seven years of professional financial/accounting experience including at least three years in a supervisory/managerial role.  Early career experience in audit or tax is a plus, but not required.
  • Experience with manufacturing and family-owned businesses is highly preferred.
  • Strong to expert level at Windows Office and Excel in particular.
  • Experience with ERP systems, including extracting financial and operational information.
  • Experience in ADP or similar payroll processing a big plus.
  • Experience with IT/ERP migrations and IT programming a plus.
  • Ability to have a positive attitude on a daily basis while interacting with co-workers, vendors, and outside service providers.
