Our client, a Fortune 1000 leader located downtown Chicago, is looking for an Accounting Manager to join their team! The role will be part of the Commercial Services team and provide oversight of the monthly and quarterly close process. This company has amazing perks! The team is currently working 100% remote with plans to return to the office in October. At that point, the team will be working a hybrid model where the team can work from home 2-3 days!  

Summary

Our client is seeking a self-motivated professional accounting manager to join its Corporate Accounting team. The primary responsibility of this position is the oversight of the commercial services accounting team and their assigned processes within the monthly and quarterly close.  This includes oversight over the journal entry, account reconciliation, and analytics processes, managing and providing experienced oversight in commercial services accounting.  Additional responsibilities include preparation and review of statutory audit reports and the evaluation and development of the senior and staff accountants on the team so that they may grow as professionals and elevate to higher levels of responsibility. Additionally, the manager will be expected to identify projects to improve the accounting processes for which the team is responsible and manage the team to ensure the projects are successfully executed.

Responsibilities

  • Overseeing fund accounting process, including the billings and impact to reimbursed income/expenses, as well as other areas.
  • Responsible for reviewing or providing oversight around complex monthly journal entries, higher risk balance sheet reconciliations, or analytics prepared and/or reviewed by the staff and seniors.
  • Field and resolve inquiries from management and external auditors.
  • Contribute to compliance with Sarbanes-Oxley, including documentation of process areas and testing of key controls.
  • Reviewing quarterly schedules for external posting.
  • Assist with the optimization of accounting procedures and special projects, as assigned.
  • Managing a team of 2 senior and 1 staff accountants.
  • Serve as an effective business partner with various finance teams, business units and external auditors throughout the course of the month/year.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience in corporate accounting and/or public accounting preferred
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance or related field
  • CPA - Certified Public Accountant (optional)
  • Strong PC skills including Microsoft Office
  • Financial ERP systems (Oracle preferred)
