Our large Markham based client has an immediate opening for an Expense Analyst. The Expense Analyst as part of the Finance department’s Expense team supports the achievement of short and long term objectives through management of the corporate expense budget. This is accomplished by providing detailed reporting of expenses, actual variance to plan analysis, monthly reforecasts, and annual plan process.

 

Responsibilities:

Expense Reporting and Variance Analysis

  • Responsible for the timeliness, integrity and accuracy of the month-end close process, which involves recording journal entries, account reconciliation, statutory/management reporting
  • Monitors assigned department/functional areas’ actual variance to plan expenses and conducts analysis to determine and question reasons for variance
  • Provides direction, training and coordination to Expense Coordinators as required

Forecast

  • Develop year end expense reforecast for assigned functional 
  • Review net savings to ensure reasonability and follow up/challenge assumptions with Expense Coordinator 
  • Prepare reforecast of expense submission to parent company for short and long range forecasts

Budget

  • Coordinate the annual budgeting process for assigned functional areas 
  • Provide training and ongoing support to Expense Coordinators on overall planning process and systems as needed
  • Review functional area expense plan for reasonability and address any concerns 
  • Coordinate and follow up with Expense Coordinator appropriately for revision to plan as required

Qualifications:

  • University degree in business, accounting or equivalent is essential
  • Progress towards a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation is an asset
  • Minimum of 2-3 years’ experience in financial analysis and forecasting, budget formulation, financial planning, financial controls, as well as preparing a variety of financial performance reports
  • Strong working experience with computer applications (e.g. SAP, MS Office Suite)

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to work across departments 
  • Ability to work in a team environment managing multiple tasks under pressure, and to and to produce results within tight timeframes

Compensation in the range of 55K-63K + bonus, RRSP matching and benefits
