Looking for a confident, self-directed Cost Accountant with high energy and spirit to take ownership of the Cost Accounting function, collaborate with Operational, Plant, and Finance and Accounting Department personnel to gain a deep understanding of cost drivers and reporting requirements; build and optimize a standard cost system in SAP, and perform analysis of manufacturing costs and profitability. The Cost Accountant will participate in the month-end close process; provide accurate information for financial reporting; perform financial and variance analysis of direct material, direct labor, and manufacturing overhead; and prepare standard and non-standard journal entries as required.

Responsibilities of the Cost Accountant

  • Add new products into SAP and ensure proper standard cost calculation and data integration.
  • Perform daily analysis of production orders to ensure accurate transaction flow in SAP.
  • Review, analyze, and ensure accuracy of standard costs, BOMs, routings, overhead calculations, labor, etc. and make recommendations to increase profitability. Detect cost drivers and suggest costing improvements.
  • Perform monthly analysis of manufacturing efficiencies and profitability by cost centers.
  • Develop and maintain all cost-related reporting to present to executive, operations, and plant management teams. Provide daily and monthly reports on production orders, purchase prices, capital investments, and inventory variances. Update plant dashboard, including labor variances, plant activity, quality, material variances, absorption, and expense indicators
  • Prepare monthly reconciliation and standard costs to actual costs.
  • Actively participate in the annual budgeting process by providing updated cost information across different product lines.
  • Coordinate annual physical inventory count, including interface with external auditors.

Responsibilities of the Cost Accountant

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance. MBA or advanced degree is preferred.
  • At least 5 years of cost accounting experience with at least 3 years working in a standard cost environment.
  • Effective organization and communication skills.
  • Capable of collaborating cross functionally.
  • Experience with larger/more complex ERP systems. Prior experience with SAP is preferred.
  • User of advanced Excel functions (PivotTables. VLOOPUP, HLOOKUP).
