IFG is on the search for a Site Merchandiser to support a client in the retail industry in their ecommerce team.


This position is responsible for helping setup and optimizing our clients  website to increase conversion and drive sales through product content, navigation, search, promotions, and online merchandising strategy.  This is achieved through tailoring the customer experience through understanding customer purchase path and intent to purchase, using web analytics, loyalty data, internal objectives and industry best practices.

A key accountability of the role will be the execution of assortment strategies and product assortments online. In addition, the execution of the seasonal planning calendar, including key business priorities and marketing/promotional events focused on maximizing customer engagement online.

This role plays a key part in defining and managing our homepage, and online events.

General Responsibilities:

  • Ensure website is updated daily, weekly, monthly to reflect the key products/events to maximize sales, margin and store traffic

  • Using analytics to understand how the customer shops and adjust the offering and customer experience

  • Maximize the placement of products and digital assets to drive sales, margin and store traffic

  • Understand search terms and highest visited areas of the category and implement tactics to provide a tailored customer experience

  • Create strategy to drive traffic to lower performing areas of the website

  • Sales & margin – Planning & Forecasting (annual, periodic, daily)

  • Coordinate major campaigns and new product launches

  • Increase on-site engagement & content effectiveness – conversion, product page view, add to cart, time on site, revenue driven by content stories

  • A/B Testing

  • Content Management - creating/modifying product descriptions to ensure they are focused on eCommerce strategies.

  • Ensure consistency of content across all websites – consistent voice and tone.

  • Ensure SEO best practices are followed, and optimized, while developing website content.

  • Maximize engagement of the user through digital story telling – best sellers, key stories, high margin, high inventory, etc

  • Create content and merchandising opportunities to cross-sell and up-sell

  • Attend regular website agency meetings and provide relevant input.

  • Ensure inventory and pricing is consistent, and present, in virtual inventory management system (Magstar).

  • Ensure all photography of products is complete and uploaded to website – plan and execute.

  • Plan and execute promotional activities on website (i.e. promotions, offers).

  • Intimate knowledge of products is required.  Therefore, close interaction with the Product team is required.


    Planning and Analytics:

  • Identify underdeveloped and emerging products or categories, based on information/research on Google Analytics, internal and external trends, as well as the competitive landscape.

  • Regularly monitor effectiveness of merchandising efforts and perform regular testing.

  • Identify top competitors and their online strategies.  Based on this, make recommendations on what Tilley can adopt internally to it’s website to increase the eCommerce footprint.

  • Stay up to date on the latest industry developments and trends.

  • Ongoing evaluation of marketing content effectiveness by using data and reports to create meaningful and actionable insights, measuring return on investment (ROI)

  • Identify opportunities for multivariate testing (i.e. home page, landing pages, etc.) and develop solutions, where necessary.

  • Produce weekly Key Performance Indicators, along with feedback and recommendations for improvement.



  • Diploma or Degree from a recognized post-secondary institution, preferably in Marketing

  • At least 3-5 years of experience in eCommerce merchandising and/or eCommerce product management

  • Bilingual (English and French) considered an asset

  • Prior experience with Magneto 2.0 and/or Magstar considered an asset

  • Experience in building strategic frameworks (plans), and presenting ideas to various levels across the organisation, driving execution of project to completion

  • Solid understanding of retail metrics, merchandise planning and financial planning/budgeting

  • Experience with web analytics (Google Analytics)

  • Motivated, self-starter with the ability to function in an environment with a high level of ambiguity and change.

  • Highly organized and exceptional attention to detail.

  • Strong problem solving, decision making, and project management

  • Ability to build and maintain relationships, influence change, collaborate, and persuade cross-functionality at all levels of the organization and with external partners.

  • Maintaining a customer focused attitude during multiple demands of multiple stakeholders

  • Strong interpersonal, communication skills, and ability to work in a team

  • Strong computer skills in Word, Excel, Photoshop, and website maintenance.

  • Ability to meet tight deadlines in a stressful, high paced work environment.
